Carbon Nanotube Antenna in the sub Terahertz Range

In communications and electronic engineering, a transmission line is a specialized cable designed to carry alternating current of radio frequency,Carbon nanotubes are expected to help in the miniaturization of electronic circuits. They are expected to bridge contact between macroscopic and nanoworld. CNTs working as antennas is a field still in its infancy. They are predicted to work efficiently in the high frequency range. Enhancement of radiation efficiency at tera hertz range was achieved using a bundle of single walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) instead of a single SWCNT. However still a lower cut off frequency limit (100GHz) occurs. The structure proposed in the paper was used to enhance the radiation efficiency and radiation resistance at the lower part of tera hertz band or sub tera hertz band. The nanotube antenna differs from an ordinary antenna due to to its high kinetic inductance, characteristic impedance, etc.

Monitoring Respiration and Cardiac Activity Using Fiber Bragg Grating-Based Sensor

Fiber Bragg Grating-Based Sensor device consists of a Bragg grating inscribed into a single mode optical fiber and operating on a wavelength of around 1550 nm. The fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is mounted inside a pneumatic cushion to be placed between the backrest of the seat and the back of the monitored person. Vibrations,i.e,dynamic strains transferred to the FBGs involve changes of the instantaneous Bragg wavelength values (proportional to the vibrations). Their detection with the interrogation system (with proper resolution and dynamic characteristics)provides information on breathing activity and heart rate.
